| (Note: Andrew has participated in the creation of an art calendar for the past four years. Each year his shared thoughts about art and the project are printed on the back cover of the calendar. This is what he had to say about art and last year's calendar.) An art calendar is not just 12 pieces of art all bundled up so you can count what day it is, but instead it is an inspiration. It isn’t just about the pictures. It’s about life. Here’s an example. If you see a window, you might think it’s just a window, but if you get into the real physics of it, it’s not just about the light. It keeps the hot air out (or in) and it keeps the cold air out (or in). It gives us a reference point for outside and inside. The window gives us a place to place ourselves. And having that a place to know where we are allows us then to be a part of a creative whole. That is what I like about art. If there is anything around you which you can have a viewpoint about, it must involve aesthetics. You have to impose yourself upon it and say what it is. You have to define it. When you go through the list of what a thing is, you have imposed your mind upon it. Your personality becomes fused with the thing you have just defined. If that’s done aesthetically, it becomes art. Once you start doing art, you get interested in more than art. You get interested in life. |
